Christmas Creche
There is an annual tradition here in Palo Alto where members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints organize a Christmas Creche exhibit. In its 20th year, there are hundreds of creches (nativities) of all different sizes and from many different countries. William and I went for Family Home Evening and it was truly so impressive to see all of the different depictions of the Savior's birth as well as the artistic talents of so many individuals. One of my favorite pieces (we weren't allowed to take photos) was a life size creche made of cutouts and placed upon the gym stage with lights highlighting it. I was so impressed that someone made it. They also had this mural painted by a teacher at BYU on display. William and I tended to favor the simple, yet elegant pieces as opposed to some of the more elaborately decorated ones. We felt that the simple ones conveyed a more powerful image of the Savior's birth. I was so impressed with the staging of the event. Much thought and care went into the design and placement of the creches- elaborate backdrops and scenery were included with each one. Overall, it was a great way to celebrate the season of our Savior's birth.
